Item 3 · Product Vision
The Closed Circles Model
Our core architectural decision — designed for the Indian medical context
The insight: Indian medical institutions are competitive with each other. An open professional network won't work — surgeons won't share clinical insights in a space visible to rival institutions.
The solution: Private, invite-only circles. Each circle is a curated professional group convened by a senior surgeon. You can only join by personal invitation. Conversations stay within the circle.
For MED-EL: The Indian admin team has supervisory access across all circles — and can post as "Hearbetter Official" to keep circles active when a Circle Leader is inactive.
How it works
🔒
Invite-only entry
Circle Leader sends a personal invite via SMS or WhatsApp. No open registration.
💬
Private by default
Posts are only visible to circle members. No cross-circle discovery or public feed.
🩺
Curated membership
ENT surgeons, audiologists, HCPs — invited by colleagues they know personally.
📊
MED-EL admin layer
Indian admin team manages circles, moderates content, and can shadow post as "Hearbetter Official".
Item 3 · Product Vision
Three User Roles
Each role has distinct access, responsibilities, and interaction patterns
CL · Circle Leader
Circle Leader
Senior ENT surgeons and KOLs. They convene the circle, invite members, and moderate content. Authority comes from curation, not broadcasting.
Capabilities
  • Create and name circles
  • Invite members by mobile/email
  • Approve join requests
  • Remove members
  • Report posts and comments (escalates to Admin)
  • Post, comment, like
CM · Circle Member
Circle Member
Residents, audiologists, HCPs. Invited professionals who participate in circles they were personally invited to join.
Capabilities
  • Accept circle invitations
  • Like and comment on posts
  • View all posts in their circle
  • Report posts and comments
DD-22: CMs cannot create posts. Only Circle Leaders and Admin can publish content.
Admin · Indian Team
Admin
MED-EL India staff (Shefali, Sheetal, Juhi). Full platform management via the web admin panel. Also acts as "shadow circle lead" — posting as Hearbetter Official in inactive circles.
Capabilities
  • Manage users, circles, and content
  • Shadow post as "Hearbetter Official"
  • Review governance cases (reports, restrictions)
  • Send targeted notifications
DD-24: No separate Area Manager role. Indian admin team handles all governance from the web panel.
Item 3 · Product Vision
Key Design Decisions
Key decisions confirmed with MED-EL pre-meeting — one item still needs your input today
DD-22
Only Circle Leaders and Admin can post. Circle Members consume, like, comment, and report.
Confirmed per Lisa's pre-kickoff input. Content authority stays with Circle Leaders and the MED-EL India team. Circle Members engage through comments and likes — their voice is present, but content curation stays with the leader and admin.
DD-23
Admin can shadow post as "Hearbetter Official" in any circle when the CL is inactive.
The Indian admin team can publish content in any circle, attributed to "Hearbetter Official". This keeps circles alive between CL activity bursts and allows MED-EL to push targeted content. We need to confirm: is "Hearbetter Official" the right label?
DD-16
Audio content deferred to v2. V1 supports: text, image, video, PDF.
Confirmed per Lisa's pre-kickoff input. Audio — audiograms, voice recordings — introduces hearing-aid compatibility complexity that deserves dedicated attention post-launch.
DD-24
No separate Area Manager role. Indian admin team uses Admin accounts with full governance access.
Confirmed per Lisa's pre-kickoff input. The Indian team already acts as shadow circle leads. Governance — restriction review, content moderation, member removal — is handled through the web admin panel.
